• Getting a job can wait
It is good to be motivated to want to get a job, but getting one in the freshman year can be disastrous. That time should be used to focus on studies and extracurricular activities. You should try to enjoy yourself as much as possible because trust us, this time won’t ever come back.
• Try to get good grades
While there is more to studies than good grades or a good GPA, these grades matter too. Because they are the first thing that someone is going to ask you when you try to get a job. It is very tempting to not work hard and just do so much that you are on average, but as the academic session progresses it will become harder to maintain your grades. So getting a good start becomes really important.
• Knowing your teachers can help
Getting to know your teachers outside class is very important for success. They are the people who have been through all this and can provide you with great advice and direction. They also have connections in their field and can get you an internship or even a job.
• Don’t do more than two internships
Internships or a shorter working experience is necessary for the completion of a degree, but that doesn't mean that you should apply for a lot of internships. Just do one or two when you are at college and they should be enough.
