Social Media – The Role in Education

Social Media – the invasion

Social networking websites, or social media, has changed our lives drastically over the past few years. Every other internet user such that student, teacher, paper writing online experts, job person or any one that we come across has an account on one or more social networking websites, and people spend a lot of time on these social networks, updating statuses, posting pictures and other files, and looking up what other people are up to. Social media has practically invaded the life of the average internet user. It is now a part of almost everything the user does, and that includes education.

Studies and Social Networking

Studies and social networking – the link may not seem very evident, but you will be surprised at how much social networking websites are now involved in the studies. Students make up a large number of internet users, and that means a large portion of the people who use social networking websites are also students. Their educational activities are also interlinked now with their activities on social media.

Groups

A lot of groups on social networking websites are related to education. Some of them are class groups, where students share information or files, or discuss class activities and course-related stuff. Some other groups are dedicated towards merely sharing information and knowledge on a particular subject. There are groups that are just focused upon sharing eBooks, and also groups that are project-related.

Pages

There are many pages on social media that share information, knowledge and educational resources publicly, and anyone who likes those pages or subscribes, gets these things in their newsfeed regularly.

Such pages are not limited to a particular topic or a particular field, but pages can be found on a very assorted variety of topics, covering a vast share of information. The thing about these is that the updates on the pages appear in the newsfeed, so even those who do not like to make much effort, benefit.
